It’s been more than three decades since the last great coal mining film came to theaters, but that hasn’t stopped Netflix from introducing a number of great films that explore the history and politics of coal mining.
Among them are The Great Gatsby, The Last of the Mohicans, and American Sniper.
Netflix is also bringing two new films to the streaming service that are a bit more mainstream than its last few.
American Sniper is a dark, war-ravaged thriller starring Ryan Gosling and Tom Hardy.
Netflix has said the film will be released in 2019 and will tell the story of the 2012 shooting of American Sniper Chris Kyle at the behest of a terrorist organization.
The film will reportedly be directed by the legendary filmmaker Steven Soderbergh and is expected to be the first installment in the long-running Soderberger saga.
American Snipers plot line also includes the discovery of a stash of weapons that was reportedly used in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, as well as the discovery that the FBI, CIA, and Mossad had planted a hidden bunker in the home of George Bush Sr. and Laura Bush in the remote town of Waco, Texas.
The movie will also reportedly be written and directed by Ryan Goslin, who will play a retired U.S. Army officer.
American Soldiers will be a darkly comic look at the U.K.’s armed forces.
Netflix will premiere the movie, titled The Great War, in its new “A&C” slot beginning on January 21.
The series stars Matthew McConaughey, Olivia Cooke, Samuel L. Jackson, and Colin Firth.
The story centers on an Army veteran who finds himself embroiled in the chaos of a conflict in which he has a choice to make: join the British army or be killed.
If he joins the British, he will be the highest-ranking officer in the country, but if he chooses the U, he faces an uncertain future.
It’s unclear how long the series will last on Netflix, but the series stars McConaughy and Cooke, as they all return in the series’ next two episodes.
The Great Siege is the story and character of British forces in World War I. The British, the world’s most powerful military, were waging a bloody and unrelenting war in Europe against Germany and the Ottoman Empire, a group of nations that occupied much of the Balkans and southern Russia.
The war, which was eventually won by the Allies, ended with the death of General Arthur Burnside.
British troops invaded Germany in 1918 and then occupied the country until the end of World War II.
This war led to the creation of the European Communities, or EEC, and eventually the United Kingdom.
Netflix announced that it has ordered two more episodes of the series, The Great Fire and The Great Battle, in 2019.
The first will be titled The Fire and the Fire, while the second will be entitled The Great Conqueror.
