Posted by The Associated Press on July 11, 2018 05:06:03The U.S. government has approved a $2.8 billion deal to drill a deep-water mine for gold in the Gulf of Mexico, a move that could end months of speculation about whether the nation could someday become the world’s largest gold producer.
The Interior Department has given approval for the Deepwater Horizon oil rig to begin operations on Aug. 19, a day after the agency issued its approval for drilling in the U.K., Canada and Norway, according to the U,S.
Department of the Interior.
It will be the first deep-sea oil rig in U.A.E. history.
It will also be the largest ever operated by a U.F.O. The Deepwater Hurricane, a 565-foot-long rig in the Persian Gulf, is currently the world record holder for the deepest, with 1,300 feet.
The first Deepwater hurricane was operated by the Soviet Union in the 1960s.
