Bali: A Chinese company is seeking to drill under the sea off the coast of Indonesia’s Bali.

The company, Beijing Xianxing Co., is planning to drill a massive underground tunnel under the seafloor, said a senior official from the country’s Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DFA).DFA spokesman Zulkifli Mohammadi said the company has not yet submitted a proposal to drill for the first time, and the official said it would likely be completed by next year.

The government is also expected to sign a deal with Chinese firms to drill in the region for a number of years, Mohammari said.

The area is rich in natural resources and includes vast deposits of iron ore, zinc, copper, rare earth minerals, and gold.
